Does a Bedding Skirt Make a Difference?
The easiest way to decorate your bedroom and create a bed that welcomes you between the sheets at the end
of a long day is to purchase a complete bedding set. They are often referred to as "bed in a bag" or similar titles
since they usually come packaged in large plastic bags. These sets will give you everything needed to complete your
bed, from the sheets and pillowcases to decorative pieces like a bedding skirt. When purchased together they will
all coordinate together in terms of color, pattern, and texture so your room is well put together and visually
appealing.
So, what if you found a bedspread and other items that you liked but they didn't come in a bagged set? The
temptation is always there when purchasing bedding to cut expenses and get out of the store with as much money
remaining in your pocket as possible. The prices of bedding are higher than most would prefer to pay, but the
bedding skirt should not be the item you leave behind!
The bedding skirt is often seen as an "optional" piece of the bedding set. It's nice to have and certainly
covers up underneath the bed so the room is overall better looking, but many people are willing to sacrifice the
neater appearance in order to save the money a bedding skirt would cost. They obviously don't know that a bedding
skirt is much more than a way to cover up underneath the bed!
Contrasting Designs/Textures
A bedding skirt can be used to add contrast in pattern, color, and texture within a bedroom. This is especially
important if you purchased the sheets, bedspread, and drapery from a coordinating bedding set. You don't want
everything in the room to be the exact same color or pattern because that will give a boring, bland appearance to
the overall room.
If your bedding skirt didn't come with other items of your bedding, then choose one that adds a pleasing
contrast to the rest of the bedding. You can play up this contrast by adding throw pillows that coordinate with or
match the bedding skirt or by using artwork on the walls that work well with the colors and patterns in the bedding
skirt.
Blocking the Frame
Depending on the type of frame that you have on your bed, you may have the sides of metal rails exposed along
the sides of your bed. While bedding skirts are commonly used to cover these up for aesthetic reasons, you should
also keep them covered to avoid hitting your toes on them when getting in and out of bed. It may seem like this is
unlikely to happen, but it does!
When you use a bedding skirt you block the sides of the mattress, those exposed rails, as well as whatever you
may be storing underneath the bed. It does give a much neater, more pleasing appearance, but it also is a very
functional aspect of the bedroom.
The bedding skirt does make a huge difference in your bedroom! This is not an "optional" piece of the bedding
set which can be left out to save expenses. If you want your room to look its absolute best and be as comfortable
as possible when it's time to crawl between the sheets, then purchasing a bedding skirt is absolutely
essential.
